Pizza Dough & Tomato Sauce
We have tried a few ways of making pizza dough. This authentic recipe is our personal favourite. We like our pizzas topped with a well reduced tomato sauce, pepperoni, red chilli and lots of mozzarella. How you top your pizza is a matter of personal taste. Home made pizza is so much better than shop bought pizza. Once you’ve cracked this recipe you’ll never want another shop bought version!
Pizza Dough & Tomato Sauce
This is a quick and easy pizza dough and tomato sauce recipe. If making both, start with the tomato sauce as the dough can be made whilst the sauce is reducing. We add mozzarella, and sliced rounds of pepperoni to our pizza base and tomato sauce.

Ingredients
Pizza Dough
- 200 g Plain Flour plus a bit for dusting
- 1 tsp Dried Yeast
- ½ tsp Salt
- ½ tsp Caster Sugar
- 1 tbsp Olive Oil
- 110 ml Water
Tomato Sauce
- 1 tin Cherry Tomatoes 400g
- 1 tsp Sugar or to taste
- pinch Salt
- ¼ tsp Oregano Dried
- 1 clove Garlic minced (or one teaspoon garlic paste)
Toppings
- 1 ball Mozzarella cheese
- 1 pack Sliced pepperoni
- 1 Red chilli, sliced
Instructions
- Put the flour, yeast, salt and sugar into a mixing bowl (keep the salt away from the yeast) and mix together. Make a well in the centre and add the oil followed by the water. Mix to bring together as a dough.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for one minute (yep, that's it, just one minute!). The dough should be soft and smooth. Leave to rest under the upturned bowl until you are ready for it.
- Once you're ready, roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface until it is about 30cm in diameter. Add the toppings of your choice (not too much wet topping or you'll end up with a soggy bottom!) and bake in a searingly hot oven (as hot has you can get it) for 10-15 minutes until it's cooked. Pour a large glass of wine and enjoy!
Tomato Sauce
- Add the cherry tomatoes, sugar, garlic and oregano to a liquidiser or food processor and blend until the tomato mixture is smooth. I find a liquidiser easier to clean!
- In a saucepan, bring the mixture to a boil and reduce to a thick sauce. As it reduces, the mixture will 'spit'. Cover with a sheet of kitchen paper to keep the hob clean.
